Derek Bridges, a 69 year old grandfather from Basingstoke, Hampshire, was about to retire for the evening at 10:30pm on a clear and calm night in the English countryside. As usual, he took a quick peak out the window before bed, and was astounded to see a set of twin glowing lights hovering over the Laverstoke Park Farm area, a 2500 acre grassy area teeming with wildlife. Mesmerized by the orange glowing lights, Bridges watched the hovering craft as it remained motionless in the sky. The strange occurrence lingered for 20 minutes, and Bridges knew he had but little time to act.

The quick thinking Bridges knew he was witnessing a possible UFO sighting, and ran for his video camera to record the phenomena. Suddenly, a large creature, describable as bovine or equine in nature, was lifted from the farmland and slowly hoisted through the air towards the bottom of the unidentified aircraft. There were no sounds as the animal hovered over the ground below, not much struggle, and no evidence that the creature was harmed.

The telling video is under investigation by UFO hunters based in Scarborough and the incident has been reported to British officials. However, Intelligence and military investigation are routinely kept classified for security reasons, and offer little hope of explanation revealed to the public.

UFO experts have examined this remarkable footage and declared unanimously that the images are real and unadulterated in any way. Kenneth Parsons, of the British Earth and Aerial Mysteries Society, concurs with a team of other experts, to include Nick Pope, the former head of the British Government’s UFO Project, that the video is credible and fully authentic. Pope commented, ” If this footage is genuine, it could be highly significant, and we are very exited”.

Strange phenomena in the skies near the Basingstoke area has been duly reported in recent years from credible eyewitnesses observing aerial activity over the region. A multitude of families have reported seeing a fleet of glowing lights in the sky, seeming to fly in a regimented formation and changing the configuration of their flight path with precision and purpose. In all cases, the aircraft displayed the same orange colored illumination seen on the Derek Bridges video tape.

In addition, a trucker reported seeing alien beings wandering about the nearby region. And this should come as no surprise, as is the case with international sightings, there seems to be concentrated UFO activity within certain regions, and the UK is no exception. Today, with a vigilant public armed with sophisticated camera equipment, we may expect to see more visual images captured. However, for now, the Derek Bridges video tape is the most conclusive and powerful piece of evidence on record.

The Martians obviously won’t be coming any time soon since the only photograph that we have that might suggest evidence of life that was on Mars was in a photo taken by Mars Explorer Rover Spirit which was released by NASA as a puzzling look into the face of those desperately searching to find life on Mars. The photo looks like a statue with a hand pointing outwards. The still life is remarkably human in appearance. Think how large it must be to show up that clearly in the photo and undamaged at that. Could it be that someone on Planet Mars knows that humans are spying on them and are pointing us to where we can look?

A photo released on April 5Th, 2007, by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter team of the area identified as the Cydonia region of Mars looks like a cameo. A cameo of a beautiful woman complete with shoulders and encased in a frame that lifts up and around her. The beautiful Martian face obviously is only a region of low lying hills that just happen to look like a cameo. The picture can be contrasted to our man on the moon conception which is just dips and hollows of moon magic on a clear night.

Actually, the woman’s face on Mars is really suggestive that maybe there are creative inhabitants of Mars who choose to keep their existence a secret. Why spoil the possible imaginings of keen minds when a perfect cameo of startlingly proportions is photographed on Mars. And, why leap to conclusions that the artistic rendering of a beautiful woman in rather large cameo is evidence of a past civilization. Might there be other visitors to Mars who like to use the planet creatively? All jesting aside the photos of pyramids are strikingly similar to pyramids found in Egypt.

Does the face on Mars and the pyramids formations dictate credible evidence of life on Mars. What the photos show are Martian soil formations with various impressions that we can get by taking photos of the Sahara Desert and interpreting sand formations as evidence of past civilizations. The evidence of the face and the pyramids is that the surface of Mars does have terrain of mountains, crevices and hills. To leap into an assumption that Mars had a civilization of beings who built things that were also built on Earth is sending astronomy and NASA into the realm of science fiction.

Naturally, in science fiction, there was life on Mars that built pyramids and travelled to Earth on space ships and built pyramids here. Of course, we could even venture into a supposition that Martian life was technologically superior to any life on Earth and also as deadly in their emissions as our planet deterioration activities are on Earth. Perhaps, the memories of the earliest Martians who came to Earth and added their population with ours has dimmed and they no longer remember that something terrible happened to Planet Mars that forced them to stay on Earth forever.

Whether or not one thinks that the face and the pyramids photos released by NASA are evidence of past civilizations is secondary to the primary question that should be asked. Are those ancient Martians visitors to Earth now the same people who are dooming another planet to extinction? It is a an interesting relay of future events being brought before our eyes, like a dying person having visions of his life’s most striking moments right before his death.

Ancient Aliens of the Bible

Erich von Däniken composed the basis of his theories based on his interpretation of ancient art, ancient scripture, and recently discovered artifacts in his book “Chariots of the Gods”. Däniken’s work is often considered pioneering in alternative history circles. However, there is evidence of much debate involving the subject matter prior to his emergence in the debate. His interest began with his analysis of the ancient scriptures and he set out to prove himself right.

Many passages from the Holy Bible have been interpreted by Däniken, presented in his book the “Chariots of the Gods”, to suggest his ancient alien theory was not only correct, but also well known to Old Testament writers. The meat of his argument, and that of many others, is found in the Book of Genesis which is the first book in the Holy Bible, and the Book of Enoch which was left out because of its controversial assertions. The Book of Ezekiel also contains what Däniken would consider evidence. Genesis introduces to us the character of Enoch. Enoch was a most righteous man who, according to Genesis, walked with God and could not be found again. Many say he was taken to heaven without tasting death. The context in which Enoch’s story appears is in an era when the Sons of God, as they are called in Genesis, married the daughters of men and created giant offspring known as the Nephilim. This is the extent of the Holy Bibles explanation. It leaves a lot to be explained; who are these “Sons of God,” that they might produce giants by mating with mortal women? The explanation lies in the Book of Enoch. According to the Book of Enoch, these “Sons of God” are angels who subsequently fell, or became fallen after God had seen what they did with the daughters of men. The angels were forbidden to take mankind as wives. These angels also taught men various trades, how to make weapons, how to make war, mathematics, etc.

Now the bloodline left by Adam was corrupted. God’s creation was exceedingly wicked and he regretted what his work had become. All flesh was corrupt, except for Noah and his sons. The Holy Bible says that Noah was perfect in his generations, indicating his bloodline was not corrupted like the rest of the flesh was. So God saved Noah and his generation.

From this bit of history is where Däniken’s interest becomes fixated on other worldly visitors. His book the “Chariots of the Gods” presents a theory that rests on the assumption that these angels were not angels; they were intelligent beings from another world. From there Däniken connects some more dots. He takes Ezekiel’s “wheel within a wheel” as his next bit of evidence. Däniken becomes fascinated by the idea and sets out across the world in search of artifacts, petroglyphs, and any and all accounts of ancient history he could find.

Val Camonica, Italy, is home to more than thirty thousand rock paintings dating as far back as fifteen thousand years. Many of these rock paintings have been interpreted by Däniken in an extraterrestrial manner. Some of the paintings depict humanoid figures wearing what resembles modern space suits, complete with the bubble over the head region and light reflecting off of it.

Ancient technologies such as the Bagdad Battery suggest that many ancient peoples had knowledge that was unworldly for their time period. The Nazca Lines in Peru are also described in the “Chariots of the Gods”, and Däniken suggests that they are actually maps that can only be seen from the sky, leaving one to wonder who they were meant for, as we did not learn to fly until at least fifteen hundred years after the lines were drawn. Ancient Hopi legends about six fingered men, from another world, prompted the tradition of raising the hand as a greeting.

The Men in Black are the guardians of our Universe and the protectors of all life forms seeking human protection from invasion and destruction. They have strict principals, regulations and orders that must be followed to the letter with no deviation. Deviation allows for alien life forms to appear that will threaten the existence of humanity.

Secret Government Agency

These hidden government agents have sacrificed deeply to serve as agents. They have severed all connections to family and friends, creating a sense of nonexistence to the world. They no longer possess identifiable names. A single letter replaced their identities, and agents forge a deep relationship with their partners because each knows they are responsible for watching the back of their partners during covert operations.

These Men in Black are highly trained professionals in advanced alien weaponry. New agents must take daily classes to familiarize themselves on the origin, operation and lethal consequence of alien weaponry. Aliens have developed weaponry that if was somehow given to aggressive aliens or human forms could damage or destroy the world in a matter of seconds.

The Men in Black are highly trained at tracking alien movement in the galaxies and on Earth and check daily on the latest threats to Earth. When a potential threat to Earth appears, agents mobilize immediately and create strategies on the handling of this latest peril to humanity. The actual hand to hand battling of aliens will be assigned to agents familiar with the techniques, tricks and weaknesses of that particular race.

Alien Protective Services

All aliens living on Earth have a Men In Black Agent contact that monitors daily their movements, appearances, reproduction and contact with home planets and other alien races. If an alarm sounds, the agent will contact the violating extraterrestrial warning them of their actions and consequences of they do not cease. When required, they will escort aliens off Earth and monitor in the event an alien attempts to reenter the planet illegally.

The Men in Black are required to avoid exterminating aliens for their threatening and negative actions. Men In Black agents sit on panels daily to review information and facts obtained to justify accidental exterminations. Agents who do accidentally exterminate an alien are required to undergo additional avoidance training and must fill out extensive paperwork to submit to superiors and alien nation leaders.
The Men in Black have the difficult daily task of monitoring human contact with aliens. They seek as much as possible to keep human beings from seeing or reporting the existence of extraterrestrials. When a report comes in of a possible human sighting, they react swiftly to squash any report or proof of alien existence. Ufo sightings and reporting of ex-terrestrial lifeforms never happened as far as they are concerned. An for those who have experienced such events live happier lives if they forget what they saw.

Human beings panic too easily when spotting life forms that are foreign to their eyes. Seeing a three headed creature from the Andromeda Galaxy will automatically freak people into hysteria. Negotiations and tolerance are useless because the first reaction in fear is to immediately kill the extraterrestrial. Earthlings have no tolerance for extraterrestrials because of movies that have brainwashed them into believing all space life forms are here to destroy humanity and Earth.

When a human being has an alien contact of any form, the Men in Black must take immediate action to stop hysteria before the hysteria begins. Although their actions may appear as harassment, they are actually protecting a citizen of Earth from themselves. When the wipe the memory of contact from a human’s mind, they remove all fears, all hysteria, all ability to spread fear to their neighbors especially if they have taken photographs of extraterrestrials as proof of the encounter.

The Nazca lines are one of the great archaeological riddles of modern times. These gigantic drawings cover 400 square miles of the Nazca desert, a high, arid plateau in southern Peru. The area is unusual in its ability to preserve these drawings. With only minutes of rainfall each year, the climate is one of the driest in the world. The surface of the plateau is exceptionally stony and flat which minimizes the effect of ground-level winds. As a result, there is minimal erosion due to either rain or wind and virtually no sand or dust to blanket the plain. Any lines scratched on the ground tend to become permanent features of the surface.

Age of Nazca Lines

Scientists believe the lines were etched on the ground by the Nazca people sometime between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D. In addition to geometric shapes and figures, the Nazca lines depict living creatures, imaginary beings, and stylized plants. The lines fall into two categories: geoglyphs and biomorphs. Geoglyphs are geometric in shape and include trapezoids, circles, triangles, spirals, and straight lines. Their size is enormous: one straight line was drawn nine miles across the plateau. The biomorphs encompass some 70 plant and animal figures such as a monkey, hummingbird, lizard, pelican, killer whale, and a condor with a wingspan of 130 feet. All of the biomorphs are located together in one region of the plain. Some archaeologists think the biomorphs may have been drawn as much as 500 years before the geoglyphs.

Perhaps the most mysterious aspect of the Nazca lines is that the various shapes, pictures and figures are clearly visible only from the air. The initial reports of their existence came in the 1920s when aircraft began flying across the Peruvian desert and passengers reported seeing something resembling primitive landing strips on the ground.

The surface colors of the desert plateau provided an enormous writing pad for the Nazca to create their drawings. The contrasting colors on the ground heighten the visibility of the figures from the air. The lines were drawn not by adding gravel or dirt but, instead, by removing part of the ground’s surface. The Nazca desert is covered with gravel primarily consisting of rust-colored pebbles. When the Nazca removed these pebbles, the lighter-colored soil underneath was exposed. Exposing the whiter earth caused lines to appear on the desert’s surface and the various shapes and figures to take form.

Purpose of Nazca Lines

Since their discovery, both scholarly and fantastic explanations have been advanced to explain the purpose of the Nazca lines. There is no consensus among archeologists as to why the Nazca sketched the lines. Early theories proposed they were a giant observatory, an astronomical chart or celestial calendar, created to show the direction of rising stars and important planetary happenings.

Currently, the most accepted theory is that the lines have a religious significance and, perhaps, were drawn to be seen by sky gods. The lines may have been messages to the gods, paths leading from one shrine to another, or enclosures for religious rituals. Given the arid landscape, another theory with potential is that the drawings were related to water. Research suggests some of the lines may be connected to ancient aqueducts, raising the possibility they were a map of underground water sources.

Since scientists have no definitive explanation, other theories have been put forth. Author Erick von Daniken contributed one of the most controversial: that the lines were runways for an ancient airfield where alien space craft landed.

Whatever their purpose, the Nazca lines are deteriorating due to tourist traffic as well as commercial endeavors. For now, preservation is losing out to economic necessity.

For all of us old enough to remember the television news interview made by Bob Lazar in 1989, the question still remains: Was Robert Scott Lazar telling us all parts of the real truth that is hidden behind the gates of the Nevada, USA, ‘Area 51’ secret military base? The military base that our government claims does not exist, while those hiking too close will be threatened with instant death by an armed guard if they dare to cross into it?

Area 51: Year 2012 Predictions Taken Seriously?

Bob Lazar S4 UFO

Back in 1989, Bob Lazar made claims on television that he had worked in the Papoose Lake section of Area 51 that is found on maps at section S-4, slightly south of the main military establishment. The claims continued with a hands-on experience of working on an alien spacecraft reverse engineering project. We were told that nine alien spacecraft ships were housed in a hillside bunker at this location, and that Lazar, a physicist, worked on one of them during a project designed to give us this alien technology.

Shortly after the 1989 broadcast, Bob Lazar was publicly ridiculed as a liar and a great commotion was made over his missing educational records while Bob Lazar was offering to undergo hypnosis, polygraph tests, and any other brand of truth serum that the system offered to throw at him. In all logic, Bob Lazar was telling the truth. After all, it is not like Area 51 actually exists. If Bob Lazar worked there as a physicist, who are we to assume that there were never any credentials to get him through the gates?

From prior to the days of the original Star Trek television series forward, our globe has been concerned with environmental and social matters that are being lumped together under the nickname of ‘Year 2012 Predictions’ today. Nobody knows if the year will actually be 2012 or not, but we do know that all major religions agree with the scientific community concerns about our lives ending suddenly due to a catastrophic event that will change the world as we know it. Is Area 51 acting on our Year 2012 concerns?

Assuming that Bob Lazar was being truthful about the presence of advanced technology to study at Area 51, this technology could be producing an image of our future and the means to escape problems. Before laughing, pick up that cell phone beside you, look Scotty in the eye, and ask him to beam you up. Technology is moving ahead at a rapid pace, and we do not know what advanced technology may be able to do if it exists.

A picture of our future just might be possible with advanced technology involved. John of Patmos describes a vision given to him by a God from the heavens in his Christian Bible chapter of Revelation. He was told that his end-times information was very important to pass on for the right generation to know about. Perhaps that same God continued to try to warn us about end-time events? Some people believe that Bob Lazar was telling the truth; we really are trying to clone alien technology out at Area 51.

During the year 2012, we do have a planetary configuration happening that will perhaps place an unusual pull on our fragile ball of a planet when we align with the center of the Milky Way. If our earth-skin slips during the pull, most of us will not live. Area 51 is perhaps the most sacred spot on the planet if the technology happening behind the gates is being directed by a God who is trying to help us to understand the way to escape this problem if necessary.

Military bases are made for our protection. Area 51 appears to be involved in a long-term project that will cause an upset if the public learns the truth. Our public has not panicked over the constant stories of UFO sightings, UFO abductions, or the stories being told by our pilots and astronauts of close encounters. Area 51 may have more important secrets to keep than the mere existence of flying saucers.

Bob Lazar told us something very important during his 1989 interview. We are cloning advanced technology for an unknown reason at Area 51. And, we have all known about the unusual Milky Way alignment coming up for our planet in 2012 for centuries. The ancients have called this alignment the start of a new era on earth. It is very logical to believe that Bob Lazar was telling the truth. We are cloning some alien spaceships.

Most sightings that take place in the United States are of greys, which are a different form of alien than Nordic aliens. The greys are shorter, more featureless, and somewhat creepy looking, whereas Nordic aliens have more human-like features, are very tall, and of extraordinary beauty. They often have blue eyes, but the colors vary. They have pale white skin and lips and often resemble the Aryan race. They are most often spotted in Europe and North America.

Ufos at Whitehouse?

Supposedly, Nordic aliens originated from Venus and now live in the Pleiades star cluster. They have been referred to as Pleiadeans and Errans, Erra being the planet they currently call home. While it might be difficult for many people to believe — and who knows, the skeptics might be right — there have been many similar accounts of Nordic aliens reported. The question is, is it true? Have humans really had alien encounters? Are they all just looking for attention and/or publicity? Are they insane? One common theory is that ever since Roswell took place, alien accounts began to happen. They were extremely rare prior to that. Therefore, many believe that people are tricking themselves into thinking they’re coming into contact with aliens.

There have been numerous famous reports of encounters with Nordic aliens, which include reports from Billy Meier, Howard Menger, Michael E. Salla, and Cynthia Appleton. Those accounts are covered below.

We’ll start with Michael E. Salla’s account, since his seems to be the most intriguing. During an interview with The Washington Post, he claimed that while on the Edwards Air Force Base in 1954, he witnessed Dwight E. Eisenhower communicating with Nordic aliens. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information on technology, as well as to persuade President Eisenhower to get rid of all nuclear weapons. Though hard to believe, what makes this interesting is that several alien encounters have reported that the aliens have made efforts to persuade us into eliminating nuclear weapons. If they’re real, they must know something we don’t know, like nuclear weapons have led to the end of civilizations that preceded us.

In 1975, Billy Meier claimed he had contact with Nordic aliens. He made a video documentary of his testimony. Howard Menger also claimed contact, but then retracted his story, before recanting it again. A British woman, Cynthia Appleton, claimed her son was fathered by an Nordic alien in the late 1950s. And it all started with George Adamski in 1952, who made the first sighting with an Nordic alien named Orhton in Arizona.

If you’re interested in aliens and the possibility they exist, you should also do some research on what is really going on near Area 51, how it is used as a decoy, and what takes place at an area called S-4.

Grey Aliens from Zeta Reticuli

The name “Greys” represents an accepted style of humanoid-like, allegedly intelligent extraterrestrial being. Becoming nearly synonymous with “alien” during the late 70’s to early 80’s and often used by ufologists and skeptics alike, the term Greys is generally suggested when discussing any extraterrestrial being between 3 and 5 feet tall, with a slender frame and grey complexion. These Greys are also described as having large, bulbous, black eyes, two small tears in the skin for a nose and a slit slightly above an exaggeratedly pointed chin representing the mouth. Their heads, disproportionate to the lithe stature of their bodies, are sometimes described as having patterned features such as ridges of bone framing the eyes or folds of what is assumed to be skin along the areas of the sides of the head just above the jaw which may be considered ears. Some Greys have been described as having more distinct human features such as wispy or thin hair, eye lids and more pronounced lips and ears. These particular aliens or Greys are commonly assumed to be the hybrid offspring stemming from the successful mating of an alien Grey with abductees thus giving these beings a more humanized appearance. These creatures denote a human quality both in physical appearance and, as sometimes reported, emotionally as well.

Where do they come from?

The exact origin of the Greys is of great curiosity with the overall consensus being that they come from the Zeta Reticuli. Readily visible from Earth, the Zeta Reticuli is approximately 39 light years away and is situated in the Reticulum constellation. This hypothesis, first suggested by school teacher Marjory Fish in 1968, is the now widely accepted theory of the origins of the Greys. Although widely accepted as coming from an actual planetary source, some believe that Greys could also be beings sent from mankind’s future to dissuade the human race from self destruction. Although not as widely reported or studied, this theory as to where Greys may come from is also prevalent among alien enthusiasts.

Analysis:

From the recordings of the Betty and Barney Hill incident and their landmark abduction case of 1961, the Hills depicted alien creatures with the above described features as the beings responsible for their ordeal. From these descriptions given while under hypnosis with therapist Dr. Benjamin Simon, the Hills believed themselves to have been abducted and given physical examination by Greys. It is understood that under the psycho-social sense, alien abduction claims attributed to Greys can be brought on by instances of subconscious past abuse or trauma done to the victim. The victim, unable or subconsciously unwilling to recall such abuse, makes a new reality citing abuse from human-like creatures as an explanation for this trauma. In the case of Whitley Strieber, a writer who claimed abduction in 1985, his claims could be attributed to imagination or profit gained by his publishing a book on his experience. However, abductees with no prior history of abuse or deceptive nature have been noted and lend to the support for many abduction claims.

Greys and their UFO’s

Although usually attributed with UFO or spacecraft sightings of varied degrees, Greys are more often reported with the cigar-shaped UFO’s than with other disk, egg or cloud shaped types of spacecraft. However, even the most reported sighting instances can be explained away by simple logic or fact checking into local events surrounding those same dates and times. Many sightings are attributed, upon further examination, to simple atmospheric conditions, local airport or military practices or other means of deliberate deceptive acts perpetrated by hoax.

Strange things were brewing in Flatwoods, West Virginia on the night of September 12, 1952. Several Citizens of this small town reported seeing an alien space craft land in the area. There were sightings of a large monster like creature and reports of strange smells, weird sounds and odd marks on the ground. The people who saw the creature became known as the September 12 group and tales of their Encounter with the Flatwoods monster still stir up fear and controversy decades after it happened

It all began when 2 brothers Edward, age 13, and Fred May, age 12 and their friend Tommy Hyer, 11 saw a very bright object streak across the night sky. It seemed to land on farm land belonging to a man named G. Bailey Fisher. They ran to the May’s family home and told Mrs. May that they’d seen a UFO crash into the hills. Mrs. May decided to look into things and went to the site with the three boys. 2 other boys and a 17 year old West Virgina National guardsman named Gene Lemon went to the farm with them.

Gene Lemon took his dog along and it ran ahead of the group, barking wildly. It immediately returned to them with it’s tail between it’s legs, a sure sign of fear in a dog. After walking for nearly 1/4 of a mile the group stopped on top of a hill and saw what they thought was a pulsing red ball of fire and also noticed a thick mist surrounding them that made their noses and eyes water and burn. Lemon had a flashlight aimed at two lights he’d noticed off to the side and shined his light into the woods, leading to his first Encounter with the Flatwoods monster. He saw a creature that’s been described as at least 10 feet tall with a heart or ace of spades shaped head, a red face with bulging eyes and a man shaped body. Some accounts have the creature without arms while others said it had short stubby arms with claw like fingers that stuck out from the front of it’s body.

The group fled the scene, returned home and called the local sheriff Robert Carr and the owner of the local news paper, Mr. A. Lee Stewart. Stewart conducted a few interviews around town and went to the site of the “crash” himself. He said he could still smell a burning metallic like scent in the air. Carr and his deputy did a search of the area but found nothing to support the claims of those who’d seen the alien like creature or a space ship. Stewart did go back a day later and found traces of black liquid and some deep tracks in the mud.

Hearing of the event, William and Donna Smith, investigators from LA who were associated with the Civilian Saucer Investigation, came to interview several people in the area. They found a woman who said her 21 year old daughter had had her own Encounter with the Flatwoods monster only a week before. It affected her so badly she spent 3 weeks in the hospital. And the mother of Gene Lemon said that her home had been rocked violently that night and she’d lost radio reception for nearly an hour at the exact moment the boys saw the “crash”.

All of these events have since been explained in one way or another. There was a known meteor sighting that night. The monster was probably an owl, 3 flashing aircraft beacons were the pulsating red lights the group had seen and any illnesses the group had were contributed to nerves. And yet, the legend of the Flatwoods Monster still lives on.

On August 4, 2008 the blogging site “Bebo” began the “A Message From Earth” (AMFE) project. The project was based on input from its Bebo users as well as other notable celebrities and politicians. On September 30, 2008 the submission period ended and 501 messages that received the most votes by users were chosen to be sent to Gliese 581c on October 9, 2008. The message contained text and images that were converted into a digital format and were sent via high powered radio transmission from the National Space Agency of Ukraine’s RT-70 interstellar radar telescope. It is expected to reach Gliese 581c by the Spring of the year 2028.

The planet Gliese 581c which is 20 light years away from earth, was chosen as the target of the transmission, because it is believed that it may be able to support life. Gliese 581 is a red dwarf star located outside our solar system. Gliese 581c is one of several planets that orbits Gliese 581. At the time of its discovery it was believed to have earth-like characteristics and therefore be a good candidate to support life, but it is now believed that another planet that circles the star Gliese 581d, would be an even better candidate to support life. A fifth candidate, Gliese 581e has also been discovered.

According to the project manager, Oli Madgett of RDF Digital, the goal of sending such a message was to “help capture young people’s imaginations and inspire them to think about our own planet earth and humanity’s impact upon it”. RDF Digital is a division of RDF Media, an independent television production and distribution company in the United Kingdom. RDF Digital was “established to focus on the creation of video content for distribution over the Internet.” RDF Digital was responsible for paying the $40,000 bill for the transmission. Although, Bebo’s audience may be diverse, social networking surveys indicate that Bebo users are more likely to be children. Hence, Bebo users would appear to be a good venue for the goal of the project.

The goal of the message was to convey to others that there is intelligent life on earth. This was done by using digital text and images selected by Bebo voters. Therefore, those items selected would seem to reflect the interests of humanity and the Earth more of younger people than older generations. Topics ranged from politics, the environment, the all-important first kiss, family relationships, and music to world peace. Some specific items included a picture of Wall-E the animated litter collecting Disney robot, illustrations drawn by Bebo users, pictures of Hilary Clinton, Cheryl Cole, the faces of the television duo Richard and Judy, and the pop band McFly. Pictures of famous landmarks were also included. Perhaps one of the more controversial submissions was actress Gillian Anderson’s contribution of a picture of good and evil, symbolized by Barack Obama and George W. Bush, respectively. All of the graphics would appear as somewhat primitive by today’s standards as they were reduced to black and white pixels so they could be sent in a simple binary format.

Assuming that a return transmission would be sent via a similar technique as the 501-item message, the earliest that a response to the message would be received by earth would be approximately 2048. Although the majority of the content may be geared more toward the younger generation and represent a “slice” of a somewhat immature view of the world, various scientific experts agree that the submission would still serve the purpose of saying to other planetary life forms that there is intelligent life on earth.
